Hello friends,
I hope this email finds you well.
I'll begin by sharing a Request for help from Bodmin Road Church:
Bodmin Road Church has served the Bransholme estate since 1968. We have 2 sites on the estate, one of which hosts our popular Charity Shop. But we need help! We are receiving a large volume of high value items, which we sell via Ebay, Vinted and Amazon. This year our annual online sales will exceed £12,000. All this money is helping us to fund vital community ministries and outreach. But we have more donations than we can handle. We need volunteers who can LIST items on Ebay and Vinted for us. This can be done from your own home or in our Charity Shop and we can train you. Even just a couple of hours a week would make a great difference. For more information, please give Richard Bentley a call or text on 07508 504827 Or email
There are also some upcoming events you might be interested in over the next few weeks:
1) Hull Green Fair at Hull Minster (Sat 5th Oct, 10-4pm):
2) Our weekly Christian Prayer and Meditation gatherings at Hull Minster will start again on Wed 9th Oct, 1.30-2.30pm. All are welcome!
3) God's Heart For The Poor (Saturday, 12 October 2024, 10:00am - 3:30pm, Jubilee Central, 62 King Edward Street, Hull, HU1 3SQ):
On 12th October, Jubilee Church will be joined by Natalie Williams from Jubilee+. Natalie grew up in relative poverty in the deprived seaside town of Hastings. She is now chief executive of Jubilee+ and speaks and writes on poverty, class, justice, and the mercy of God. Natalie describes her latest book, ‘Tis Mercy All – the power of mercy in a polarised world, as her life’s message. Her previous books include Invisible Divides (on class issues in the church) and The Myth of the Undeserving Poor. Natalie is passionate about the church being a place of overflowing mercy, especially for those trapped in poverty.
Natalie and her team will be visiting Hull for the day on Saturday 12th October at Jubilee (10am-3.30pm) to put on a special day for church leadership teams. The day will explore God's heart for the poor and how we as churches can have an even greater impact in our city and region.
4) There will also be a new Autumn series of TAC talks - please see attached document for more details.
I'll sign off with a quote from CMS pioneer minister Jonny Baker:
The best gifts have no strings attached. In some cultures there is a reciprocity of expectations attached to gift-giving - for example, if someone comes for a meal we invite them back. But there are other cultures where when a gift is given it moves onwards elsewhere as if it goes round a corner, blind or out of sight as it is given to another party. It is no longer controlled. You have to trust the process and trust the recipient will keep the gift moving. I think this is a lovely picture for the spirit of gift that the Church can embody at its best - always keeping gifts moving, being generous, being prepared to let the gifts go blind and trust the Spirit.
much peace,
Sam
